This is a great starting point on the personality profile journey. That what motivates and makes sense to you won’t work for someone else. It also helps with the empathy and the pre-forgiveness process. This person isn’t trying to be short with me (Ds), spend time joking versus working (Is), want to go over all the mundane details (Cs), or can’t decide where to eat lunch for the group (Ss) just because they are going out of their way to annoy me! Chances are they aren’t even thinking about you and this is just how they are wired. Pre-forgiveness engaged! This help you also identify where things or plans may derail. How will this person process the information and how will it potentially fall apart?
Disc has four main categories D, I, S, C. Every person has a tendency to fall into one or two of the categories naturally but we can all flex into the others. Here is a link that explains this in more detail: https://www.discprofile.com/what-is-disc.
D- Code for Dominant. These individuals are upfront and focused on results. They need the answer directly and they appreciate immediate, definitive action. Wishy-washy answers annoy them and people that don’t speak up in the moment confuse and frustrate them. More info, check this out: https://www.discprofile.com/what-is-disc/disc-styles/dominance
I- Code for Influence. These individuals love interaction with other people. They need the experience to be fun and the result may or may not be necessary. These are the individuals that are always planning events with others and gain energy from being in a group with fun people. People that are just focused on results or aren’t interested in having fun along the way to getting to the goal are frustrating to the Is. More info are these people are here: https://www.discprofile.com/what-is-disc/disc-styles/influence
S- Code for Steadiness. These individuals are people that are concerned about the common good before their own. They value loyalty and honesty beyond most other characteristics. Results are not as concerning as long as we are moving into the direction that makes the most sense for the group. They are frustrated with change and inconsistency. They also don’t understand why people would make decisions that would upset the group or another person. C- Code for Conscientiousness. These individuals believe in accuracy and correctness. They value reaching the standards and creating a perfect result. Cs enjoy being the expert in the field or group that they are in. They get frustrated when a decision is made before all the variables are weighed out and the pitfalls are identified. They also may get frustrated in social situations that do not offer them value toward their goals. More info on Cs: https://www.discprofile.com/what-is-disc/disc-styles/conscientiousness.
There is no perfect style, but a significant understanding of yourself (strengths and weaknesses) are one of the most important factors in leadership. And isn’t that what we all want!
